Les Verbes
A verb expresses an action or a state of being.
A verb also states when the action takes place , whether it is in the past , present or future.
( Note : We will only cover Present Tense in our lessons )
In the French language, the basic verb is called l'infinitif .
(In English, the infinitive is made by adding the word "to" in front of the verb (to run, to read…). In French, the infinitive forms are indicated by endings of the verb : –er, -ir and –re.)
To use the french verb in a sentence , you need to conjugate the verb. This happens when you join the verb together with the pronouns.
Example :
S'APPELER ( to be called )
This is the infinitif of the verb.
When you conjugate the verb, it becomes Je m'appelle ( I am called)
example : Je m'appelle Aline.
I am called Aline.
The verb s'appeller is used to present yourself and others.
